Abstract
The purpose of this article is to describe a model for implementing strategies for awareness and care
through collaborative actions in Tuberculosis (TB), and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), in pe
nitentiary centers in the city of Cartagena in Colombia. This article is derived from a study based on
a participatory action research approach and descriptive typology. The sample of participants in the
study was 309 people, 30 workers from the National Penitentiary Institute (INPEC), and 279 PPL. The
model was built in a participatory and collaborative way using secondary information, and collecting
in situ experience with the study participants, presenting written reports at each stage of the process
that supported the construction of the systematized model. The resulting model includes the diagno
sis and formulation of a baseline, the development of participation, awareness, and training works
hops, and timely detection, prevention, and social mobilization
