Analysis and Mitigation of Risks affecting Physical Security: a review

Abstract

The subject of physical security involves a comprehensive approach that covers a number of situations
of global relevance, the meaning of which varies according to the place where it is carried out. In ge
neral, it contemplates a set of basic elements that aim to identify, prevent or mitigate personal, envi
ronmental, structural, environmental and IT threats or risks that may affect institutional integrity. The
study of physical security is important because it contemplates all the measures that must be adopted
to protect institutional integrity and infrastructure from damage caused by different agents such as in
trusions, sabotage, espionage, attacks, diseases, satisfaction of basic needs such as food and drinking
water, accidents, catastrophes and natural disasters, involuntary human error, hackers, among others.
In this way, the theoretical references are set out, which allow us to recognise the basic components
for understanding and analysing physical security. The physical security risks analysed are of an envi
ronmental and structural nature. From there, conclusions and discussions are drawn.
